CHICAGO (AP) – Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo is dealing with a blister on his pitching hand, but both he and team officials are optimistic it won’t keep him sidelined for long.
Lodolo, who also battled a similar issue last season, believes this blister is less severe than the previous one that forced him to miss time. Manager Terry Francona expressed confidence in the 6-foot-6 lefty’s recovery timeline.
“He’s actually doing pretty well,” Francona said. “They’re going to focus on treatment today, and we’re hoping to get something back in his hand tomorrow. It might not be a baseball just yet—probably one of those smooth balls without seams to ease him back in.”
Lodolo exited his August 4 start against the Chicago Cubs early, after noticing the blister forming during the second inning. Despite the setback, his current form and medical history suggest a quick return could be on the horizon for one of the Reds’ most valuable arms.
