Rangers Make History: Texas Snags Gold Glove Team Award After Defensive Masterclass!

On Friday night, Rawlings revealed the winners of its annual Platinum Glove Awards along with the top defensive teams in each league. The Texas Rangers took home the 2025 American League Gold Glove Team Award, while the Chicago Cubs earned the honor in the National League.

Texas was one of baseball’s best defensive clubs all season, with five players nominated for individual Gold Gloves — Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adolis García, Wyatt Langford, and Jacob deGrom. Among them, Semien stood alone as a winner, claiming the second Gold Glove of his career.

This marks the first time in franchise history the Rangers have captured the Gold Glove Team Award since its creation in 2020. Their defensive excellence wasn’t just eye test — it was historic. Texas set an MLB single-season record with a .9911 team fielding percentage, edging past the 2013 Orioles (.9910), and led all of baseball with 89 defensive runs saved, the highest total in club history since the stat’s inception.

While their offense sputtered at times — ultimately costing them a playoff berth for the second straight season — defense was their steady foundation. The Rangers committed just 51 errors, the fewest ever by the franchise in a full season, and even went 19 consecutive games without an error between August 13 and September 2, tying the longest streak in MLB history.

President of Baseball Operations Chris Young praised the team’s consistency, telling MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry:

“In spite of our offensive struggles, I commend our position players for the way they defended this year. They never took their at-bats out into the field. They gave us a chance.”

From Seager and Semien flashing leather up the middle, to Josh Jung’s hot-corner heroics and Adolis García’s outfield gems, the Rangers made tough plays look routine.

With new manager Skip Schumaker set to take the reins in 2026, Texas already boasts one of baseball’s premier defensive units. If they can bolster their offense this winter, the Rangers could be right back in the postseason conversation next year.
