Texas Says Goodbye: Bruce Bochy Returns to Giants in Surprise Move

November 10 — The San Francisco Giants announced Monday that former manager Bruce Bochy has rejoined the organization as a special advisor to baseball operations, marking his return six years after last managing the club.

The 70-year-old Bochy had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Giants’ managerial vacancy this offseason, but the position ultimately went to Tennessee’s Tony Vitello.

“Having Boch back in the organization means a great deal to all of us,” said Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey. “His leadership, experience, and deep understanding of the game are unmatched, and his insights will be invaluable as we continue to build a sustainable winner.”

Bochy managed the Giants for 13 seasons (2007–2019), leading them to three World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Over his career, he has compiled a 2,252–2,266 managerial record, including stints with the San Diego Padres (1995–2006) and the Texas Rangers (2023–2025). He went 1,052–1,054 during his tenure with San Francisco.

“I couldn’t be more excited to reconnect with the Giants and so many familiar faces,” Bochy said. “This organization and city hold a special place for me and my family, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute again in any way I can.”

Bochy and the Rangers mutually agreed to part ways on Sept. 29, one day after the 2025 season concluded. Bochy led Texas to its first World Series title in 2023, but the club finished 81–81 this past year.
