Following a women’s basketball game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers on January 24, a controversy arose when DJ T.O., the Gamecocks’ in-game DJ, played an instrumental version of a song by Flau’Jae Johnson’s late father, Camoflauge, after South Carolina’s 66-56 victory. The song, titled “Cut Friends,” was released in 2001 by Jason Johnson, who performed under the name Camoflauge. Flau’Jae, who never met her father as he was killed six months before her birth in 2003, expressed her displeasure on social media, calling the DJ’s actions “nasty behavior.” DJ T.O. initially responded with a casual apology on social media, using emojis, but later issued a more formal apology, stating that she had played the song for years at various events but acknowledged it was inappropriate to do so at this game.

South Carolina University also issued an apology, condemning the DJ’s actions as disrespectful to Flau’Jae, her family, and the LSU program. As a result, DJ T.O. was suspended for one game, and the university announced plans to meet with her to discuss expectations moving forward. The incident has sparked discussions about sensitivity and respect in sports entertainment.
