The New York Yankees have officially announced the re-signing of right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga to a one-year Major League contract for the 2025 season, which includes a club option for the 2026 season.
Loáisiga, 30, made three scoreless relief appearances in 2024, earning a 1-0 record before being placed on the 60-day injured list due to a right flexor strain. On April 12, he underwent surgery on his right elbow, which caused him to miss the remainder of the season.
In his last five seasons (2020-2024), Loáisiga has posted a 15-9 record with seven saves and a 2.98 ERA across 139 games, including three starts. His performance has been especially notable for his consistency in relief, as he recorded 36 scoreless outings of four or more outs between 2021 and 2023. This ranks as the fourth-most in the Major Leagues during that period, only behind Collin McHugh (44), Michael King (38), and Chris Stratton (37).
Over the course of his seven-year Major League career (2018-2024), Loáisiga has appeared in 163 games (11 starts) for the Yankees. He has accumulated a 19-11 record, seven saves, and a 3.44 ERA in 219.2 innings, with 198 hits allowed, 95 runs (84 earned), 72 walks, and 207 strikeouts. In 13 postseason appearances, he has posted a 3.60 ERA over 15 innings.
Originally from Managua, Nicaragua, Loáisiga was first signed by the San Francisco Giants as an undrafted free agent on September 13, 2012. He later joined the Yankees as a Minor League free agent on February 9, 2016.
