BREAKING: A Veteran Powerhouse Joins the Yankees’ Ranks: “Yankees Stun MLB World with Shock Signing of Former AL Wins Leader – Here’s What It Means!”

The New York Yankees’ post-Juan Soto spending spree is far from over. According to Jack Curry of YES Network, the Yankees have just added veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco to their roster on a minor-league deal. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the deal includes a major league base salary of $1.5 million, with the opportunity to earn up to $2.5 million in performance bonuses.

Carrasco has had quite the journey in his career. He made a name for himself as a member of the Cleveland Indians in 2017, leading the American League with 18 wins and finishing fourth in Cy Young voting. After a brave battle with leukemia, Carrasco made an impressive comeback, winning the AL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2019.

However, his tenure with the New York Mets from 2021 to 2023 was far less inspiring. Carrasco posted an ERA of 5.21 during his three seasons with the Mets, and in two of those seasons, he finished with a negative WAR. He then returned to Cleveland for the 2024 season, but his performance remained lackluster, ending with a 3-10 record, a 5.64 ERA, and a 1.40 WHIP over 21 starts.

At 38 years old, Carrasco is clearly in the twilight of his career. Yet, the Yankees see something in him, possibly hoping to extract some value from the aging pitcher on a low-risk deal. With a right-handed starter they’re looking to move, the Yankees are clearly rolling the dice, giving Carrasco a shot with the minor-league deal and likely an invite to Major League spring training.
