Former New York Yankees infielder Jon Berti, now signed with the Chicago Cubs for the upcoming season, recently expressed his frustration over how the Los Angeles Dodgers spoke about his former team after their World Series victory.

During an interview on *Foul Territory*, Berti didn’t hold back, calling out what he perceived as disrespectful trash talk from the Dodgers. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard a World Series-winning team talk so poorly about the team they beat,” Berti said. “It felt like they were disrespecting us to the point where it seemed like we didn’t even belong in the World Series.”
The Dodgers defeated the Yankees in five games, despite the Yankees holding a 5-0 lead at one point in Game 5. A fifth-inning collapse by New York allowed the Dodgers to rally and secure the series-clinching win.
“We had a great season,” Berti said. “We won a lot of games, took our division, and beat teams like Kansas City and Cleveland to get to the World Series. We earned our spot there, but unfortunately, we didn’t play our best when it mattered most.”
While the Yankees managed to avoid a sweep by winning Game 4, the Dodgers ultimately proved too strong. “We ran into a team that played better than us in a seven-game series, and they deserved to win,” Berti admitted. “So, I guess they can say whatever they want now.”
Dodgers players like Joe Kelly and Miguel Rojas have been vocal since their victory, with Kelly calling the series a “mismatch from the start” and Rojas criticizing the Yankees for what he described as “lazy defense” and poor fundamentals.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone has also addressed the Dodgers’ comments this offseason. “They won, so they have that right,” Boone told WFAN’s Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata. “A few players have been saying some things, but it’s not the Freddie Freemans, Shoheis, or Mookies of the team. It’s others. They’re flying high right now, and we didn’t play our best. We’ll aim to get back to that stage and hopefully break through next time.”
As for Berti, his postseason performance was modest, with a .182/.250/.182 slash line in 11 at-bats, including a run scored in Game 4 of the ALCS.
