South Carolina redshirt freshman quarterback, Spencer Sellers, has officially signed a new NIL deal with the Gamecocks’ collective, The Garnet Trust, putting any rumors of him entering the NCAA transfer portal to rest. While the exact details of the deal remain undisclosed, South Carolina insider Brad Crawford reports that this deal is historic, setting a new benchmark for NIL contracts for Gamecock players.
Sellers has had an outstanding year, stepping into the starting quarterback role and leading South Carolina to an impressive 9-3 record and a spot in the Citrus Bowl. In his 11 appearances, Sellers was named the SEC Freshman of the Year for 2024 after completing 172 of 265 passes (64.9%) for 2,274 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 655 yards on 155 attempts, scoring 7 rushing touchdowns.

The most impressive part of Sellers’ season came in the second half, when he helped lead the Gamecocks on a six-game winning streak. Over the final stretch of the season, Sellers showed why he was a game-changer. During this run, he completed 67.1% of his passes for 1,481 yards, with a remarkable 13 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. On the ground, he rushed for 436 yards on 84 carries, averaging 5.19 yards per carry and scoring 4 touchdowns.
Sellers’ return is even more significant following the recent addition of Ohio State transfer Air Noland, a promising quarterback who could push for a starting spot in the future. Despite the added competition, Sellers has solidified his place as the Gamecocks’ leader as they prepare to face Illinois in the Citrus Bowl on Tuesday. This contract not only secures his future in Columbia but also reinforces his status as one of the program’s most valuable assets heading into the offseason.
