BREAKING: Ex Steelers Young Top Experience CB Signs with Chiefs

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Darius Rush didn’t have a lengthy tenure with the team, spending just parts of two seasons with the club and appearing in five games. Despite the brief stint in Pittsburgh, Rush is moving on to a fresh opportunity with the Kansas City Chiefs, who signed him to a reserve/futures contract on Tuesday. This marks the next chapter in his NFL journey, as the 24-year-old will look to make an impact with the defending Super Bowl champions.

Rush’s story with the Chiefs began back on October 4, 2024, when he was initially signed to their practice squad after being cut by the Steelers just three days earlier on October 1. Although he didn’t see any game action during his time in Kansas City, this contract extension signals that the Chiefs see potential in Rush, and he will now have the chance to compete for a role with the team in 2025.

Before transitioning to the secondary, Rush was a wide receiver at South Carolina, making a significant switch in 2019 when he moved to cornerback. Over his career in the SEC, Rush totaled 74 tackles, 15 passes defended, and three interceptions in 43 games, showcasing the skillset that made him an intriguing prospect for NFL teams. His ability to adapt to a new position speaks to his athleticism and versatility.

Rush’s journey through the NFL has been a rollercoaster. After being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2023 draft with the 138th overall pick, he was waived before the regular season started. The Steelers quickly snatched him up from the Chiefs’ practice squad in October 2023, where he played 59 snaps and recorded three tackles that season, but he was unable to secure a permanent spot on their roster.

With his signing by the Chiefs, Rush is now in a position to prove his worth in a new environment. As Kansas City prepares for the future, the young cornerback will aim to carve out a role and make the most of this new opportunity to continue his NFL career.
