Offensive tackle Cam Robinson, who joined the Minnesota Vikings mid-season in 2024, could soon be leaving after just 10 games. A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Robinson has been a steady starter throughout his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he’s never quite reached elite status. Now set to hit free agency, the Alabama product could see a significant pay increase in the near future.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, league executives predict Robinson could become one of the highest-paid tackles in the NFL. Fowler suggests that Robinson might surpass the $20 million per year mark, with potential suitors including the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and possibly the Vikings, though a return to Jacksonville is still a possibility.
Vikings’ Cam Robinson Poised for Major Payday in Free Agency
Potential New Teams:
The Kansas City Chiefs, despite having one of the NFL’s best rosters, have a glaring need at left tackle. After a failed experiment with Donovan Smith in 2023, the Chiefs turned to Wanya Morris and rookie Kingsley Suamataia in 2024, but both struggled. Robinson could bring stability to the position, allowing Joe Thuney to return to his natural guard role.
The Rams’ situation is more uncertain. Left tackle Alaric Jackson, a 2024 free agent, performed well with a solid PFF grade of 78.4, but Robinson could still earn a larger contract despite his lower grade of 63.2. If the Rams are unsure whether Jackson’s performance was a one-off, they might opt to sign Robinson instead.

The Vikings have more than $58 million in cap space, so retaining Robinson is feasible without jeopardizing other roster moves. However, with quarterback Sam Darnold set to become a free agent after an up-and-down 2024 season, Minnesota may use the franchise tag to keep Darnold, which could limit their ability to re-sign Robinson. If they opt to trade Darnold, re-signing Robinson could still be an option.
Meanwhile, Robinson’s former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, may be hesitant to let him go but had to trade him during a lost season to get something in return. With new leadership in place, the Jaguars could be in the market for a top-tier tackle to protect quarterback Trevor Lawrence, possibly even targeting Robinson if other options fall through.
