The New York Yankees are eager to extend Aaron Boone’s tenure with the team heading into the 2025 MLB season. Although Hal Steinbrenner usually prefers to let contracts run their course before making any decisions on extensions, the Yankees are willing to make an exception in Boone’s case. General manager Brian Cashman spoke to the media on Friday, confirming that both he and Steinbrenner have been actively planning for Boone’s extension.
With Boone entering the final year of his contract, Cashman expressed optimism about securing an extension deal this spring. “We picked up his option last year, but that’s not our intent—our intent is to find an extension,” Cashman stated at the Grapefruit League media day at LECOM Park. He added that discussions are ongoing between the Yankees’ front office and Boone regarding his future with the team.
While the Yankees’ primary focus during the offseason has been on roster construction, Cashman emphasized that securing Boone’s future is a top priority. “We’re hopeful at some point, sooner than later, that we’ll be able to officially cement something,” Cashman remarked, signaling that an agreement could be on the horizon. He reassured fans and media that, despite the busy winter, extending Boone’s contract remains a key goal for the team.
