The New York Yankees feature one of the top pitching rotations in Major League Baseball, anchored by Gerrit Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young winner. Max Fried and Carlos Rodon round out the high-profile signings in recent years, with homegrown talents like Clarke Schmidt and 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil providing additional depth.
With such a strong lineup, Marcus Stroman finds himself as the odd one out. When questioned about potentially moving to the bullpen, Stroman was clear in his response: “I’m a starter. I won’t pitch in the bullpen. I’m a starter.”
Since making his debut in 2014, the former first-round pick has established himself as one of the most durable pitchers, ranking 17th in innings pitched during that period. Stroman made sure to point out his consistency, saying, “Go look at the numbers. How many people can stay healthy and make 30+ starts year after year?” He added, “Especially after being told I couldn’t do it at my size. I’m a starter.”

Stroman is in the final year of the two-year deal he signed with the Yankees last offseason, which includes a vesting option for 2026 if he pitches 140 innings in 2025.
With the start of the season just around the corner, it appears the Yankees may consider trading him. According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, the team is looking to trade Stroman and potentially cover part of the $18 million he’s owed this season.
