Breaking-News; South Carolina’s Major Setback: Two Key Players Officially Out for Cheez-It Citrus Bowl – What This Means for Their Title Hopes!

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and the team were already aware that star EDGE rusher Kyle Kennard would be missing the Chee-It Citrus Bowl against No. 20 Illinois, but there was uncertainty surrounding running back Raheim Sanders, who recently declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. While it was expected that Sanders wouldn’t play in his final game before the NFL Combine, it has now been confirmed that the standout running back has officially played his last game for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina released their depth chart for the Citrus Bowl, and both Kennard and Sanders were absent, confirming they won’t be suiting up for the Gamecocks in Orlando. It’s common for players who’ve declared for the NFL Draft to sit out bowl games to avoid risking injury before the Combine in late February.

Both Sanders and Kennard were key players for South Carolina this season, with Sanders leading the team in rushing yards and touchdowns, and Kennard topping the team in sacks and forced fumbles.

Their absence creates a significant void, but it also offers an opportunity for other players to step up and prove they can be the next contributors. While Beamer will focus on getting the team’s 10th win of the season, he’ll also use the game to give younger players valuable experience and evaluate their readiness.

Even without Kennard and Sanders, South Carolina still has several standout players, like Demetrius Knight Jr., who will play in their final game. The Gamecocks will also rely on key contributors such as quarterback LaNorris Sellers, EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart, and wide receiver Nyck Harbor as they aim to secure a win and claim their 10th victory of the season, marking just the fifth time in program history.
