BIG-NEWS: Old but Gold: A Bullpen Upgrade That Could Be a Game-Changer “Yankees MUST Reunite With This Old Friend to Save Their World Series Hopes!”

The New York Yankees have somehow gone nearly 20 years without securing a World Series title. Despite consistently having one of the highest payrolls in baseball, their only championship since 2009 was a single pennant. Missteps and Aaron Boone’s questionable management led to their World Series loss to the Dodgers last October.

With the pressure mounting, especially after losing MVP candidate Juan Soto to the Mets, the Yankees are under fire to return to the Fall Classic. Strengthening the bullpen could help, especially in the highly competitive American League. Enter David Robertson, a former Yankees All-Star and familiar face.

Robertson’s journey has been quite a ride since he debuted with the Yankees in 2008, even pitching in the original Yankee Stadium. Now a free agent, he posted a 3.00 ERA across 68 games for the Texas Rangers last season, striking out 99 batters in 72 innings—his highest total since recording 100 strikeouts with the Yankees in 2011.

It’s surprising that he remains available, considering his consistent productivity in his late 30s, with a 2.82 ERA and 258 strikeouts over the last three seasons. The Yankees already added two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams this offseason, so why not pair him with a reliever experienced in handling the pressure of New York? Robertson and the Yankees have reunited before, notably in the 2017 trade that sent Todd Frazier and Tommy Kahnle to the Bronx.

That Yankees team made it to the ALCS before falling to the Houston Astros, who had their own “advantage.” While Robertson would be one of the oldest players in the league this year, age is just a number—especially for a veteran aiming for a second World Series ring.
