The attention given to Charlie McAvoy after he sustained a shoulder injury during Team USA’s first game against Team Finland in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off has sparked significant discussion. A report by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Boston Bruins were dissatisfied with the treatment McAvoy received from Team USA’s medical staff.
When questioned about the matter on Sunday, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney avoided directly addressing the issue. Instead, he expressed gratitude toward Dr. Peter Asnis and the medical team for their care of McAvoy. Sweeney emphasized that the most important factor was McAvoy’s current health and the quality of care he received. He praised Dr. Asnis and his team for their efforts.
McAvoy suffered a serious AC joint injury and developed an infection in his right shoulder, which required a three-night hospital stay. He was discharged just hours before Team USA’s championship game against Team Canada. Although McAvoy did not play in the game, he participated by announcing the lineup before Team USA’s eventual defeat.
As of now, there is no clear timeline for McAvoy’s return to the ice.
