Breaking-News: Yankees Steal $150 Million Slugger From Cross-Town Rival in Perfect Prediction.

The New York Yankees have been highly active this offseason, and there’s no sign of them slowing down. Following their trade for Cody Bellinger on Tuesday, the Yankees have already strengthened their roster with the acquisitions of Devin Williams and Max Fried.

While the team is making strides in improving both their pitching staff and lineup, general manager Brian Cashman still has some key areas to address.

One of his top priorities is acquiring Pete Alonso from the New York Mets. Alonso is undoubtedly the top first baseman available on the market, and the Yankees have shown significant interest. Cashman may be extra motivated after Juan Soto signed with the Mets, and he could be willing to offer more to bring Alonso to New York. A contract for Alonso is expected to be in the range of $150 million based on his market value.

Additionally, Cashman will likely look to complete one more significant trade, and acquiring Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals would make sense. Arenado has three years of control left with an average annual salary of $17.3 million.

A potential trade could involve sending Yankees prospects like Cade Smith (No. 12 prospect) and Zach Messinger (No. 18 prospect) to St. Louis. While Arenado’s performance dipped last season, there’s optimism that he could bounce back, making him a valuable addition to the Yankees.

Another move that makes sense for the Yankees is bringing back Tommy Kahnle. At 35 years old, Kahnle showed he still has plenty left in the tank last season with a 2.11 ERA. Given the Yankees’ ongoing search for bullpen help, Kahnle’s familiarity with the team and his solid performance make him a smart choice. Even in a lower-leverage role, his presence would help round out and strengthen the bullpen.
