MAJOR-UPDATE: “Vikings Shake Things Up: Tough Ex-Jets Coach Gritty’ Keith Carter Hired as Assistant Offensive Line Coach—Can He Transform Their Struggling Offensive Line?”

Throughout the history of the New York Jets, several coaches have garnered strong disapproval from the fanbase for various reasons, but few have sparked as much frustration as former offensive line coach Keith Carter.

Hired by head coach Robert Saleh ahead of the 2023 season, Carter struggled to build a competent offensive line over his two years with the team. After Saleh’s firing and the hiring of Aaron Glenn as the 22nd head coach in franchise history, Carter was quickly shown the door.

However, it seems he’s found a new opportunity. On Monday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings announced they had hired Carter as their assistant offensive line coach for the 2024 season.

I want to get stronger overall,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, praising Carter’s experience. “I love what Chris Kuper’s been able to do in that room, but I wanted to bring in a former head position coach who’s been part of some of the league’s best rushing attacks in recent years. At this point in his career, he’s eager to join Minnesota, and I’m confident he’ll be a great asset, bringing fresh ideas to our run game.”

Carter, who struggled to create a solid game plan and had baggage from his time with the Tennessee Titans, leaves behind a Jets offensive line that ranked among the worst in the league in recent seasons. Now, at 42 years old, Carter is moving on from his time with the Jets and joining a team with playoff ambitions in his first season. The Vikings, eager to improve their offensive line and ground game, will be hoping Carter can provide the boost they need.
