Three years ago, both seemed like brilliant hires after leading the team to the postseason and a playoff win in the 2022 season. However, perceptions have dramatically changed since then. After two consecutive losing seasons, including a dismal 3-14 finish last year, both Daboll and Schoen are under pressure to perform in 2025, with their jobs on the line. They must maximize their opportunities to improve the roster this offseason and make a splash in the 2025 NFL Draft.
For weeks, the consensus was that the Giants would either target a quarterback or simply select the best available player with their third overall pick in the first round. However, a new report suggests the team could be looking at a player who mirrors the talent of former star Saquon Barkley.
This week, the Giants are set to meet with Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, the standout running back of the 2025 class, at the NFL Combine. Jeanty, a Heisman Trophy finalist, was a force in college football last season, rushing for over 2,600 yards and 29 touchdowns on an impressive 7.0 yards per carry. Additionally, he proved to be a dual threat, recording 43 receptions for 543 yards and five touchdowns.
Ashton JeantyJeanty’s skillset draws clear comparisons to Barkley, the former Giants first-round pick who left the team after last season and went on to have a monster year with the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. Jeanty is expected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, though the Giants might trade back to acquire additional assets and potentially select him later in the round.
