The Minnesota Vikings face a critical offseason as they look to address multiple roster holes and improve their team for the 2025 season. With several free agents hitting the market, the Vikings must fill key positions while also upgrading their talent. While the quarterback situation has dominated early offseason discussions, other areas—like the defensive and offensive lines—require immediate attention. Fortunately, the Vikings have over $60 million in cap space to work with and are expected to be active in both free agency and the trade market.
One potential trade target is defensive tackle Davon Godchaux of the New England Patriots. Standing at 6’3” and 330 pounds, Godchaux could help shore up the Vikings’ struggling interior defensive line. While he’s not a prolific pass rusher like Jonathan Allen (who has also been linked to Minnesota), Godchaux excels as a run-stuffer and tackler. Over his eight-year career split between the Miami Dolphins and Patriots, he has started 109 of 120 games, recording 429 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 26 quarterback hits. In 2025, Godchaux is set to earn a $4 million base salary with an $8.33 million cap hit, making him a manageable addition. His familiarity with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who coached him in Miami, adds to the potential fit.
Another intriguing option is guard Jonah Jackson, who the Los Angeles Rams are reportedly open to trading. Jackson, a former Pro Bowler with the Detroit Lions, struggled with injuries and performance last season, playing just four games after signing a three-year, $51 million deal. In 2025, he is slated to make a $9 million base salary with a $14.6 million cap hit, but his contract allows for a relatively painless release after the season. Jackson’s experience in the NFC North and ability to compete for a starting role could make him a valuable addition to the Vikings’ offensive line, potentially replacing Blake Brandel or Dalton Risner.
As the Vikings navigate free agency and explore trade opportunities, their moves will shape their strategy for the 2025 NFL Draft. With needs across the roster, Minnesota’s front office, led by general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, has a chance to make significant improvements and position the team for a competitive season.
