A recent report by Chris Johnston highlights significant injury updates concerning a potential trade target for the Toronto Maple Leafs, though the possibility of a deal remains open.
As the NHL’s March 7th Trade Deadline approaches, the Toronto Maple Leafs are actively scouting several forwards to bolster their lineup for a strong playoff push. However, one player under consideration faces uncertainty due to an injury. According to NHL insider Chris Johnston, Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic is expected to be sidelined “week-to-week” with a lower-body injury sustained during Tuesday’s game against the Maple Leafs. Despite this setback, Johnston notes that Frederic could still be traded before the deadline, even if he hasn’t fully recovered.
Frederic left the game in the first period after a collision with Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe during a puck battle. He was absent from the Bruins’ morning skate and is likely to miss their upcoming game against the New York Islanders. Despite the injury, Frederic remains a potential trade option for the Maple Leafs, who are seeking forward depth to strengthen their playoff roster.
**Trent Frederic Could Still Be Traded Despite Injury**
The Maple Leafs still have a chance to acquire Trent Frederic, even though they were involved in the play that led to his recent injury. As division rivals, the Bruins might consider trading Frederic to Toronto, especially since he could be a cost-effective addition for the Leafs. However, Toronto should proceed with caution, given their own injury struggles this season. Adding a player with a recent injury history carries some risk, as it could lead to further complications down the line.
Frederic, 27, is in the final year of a two-year contract earning him $2.3 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. This season, he has recorded eight goals and 15 points in 57 games for the Bruins.
Despite his extended absence due to injury, Trent Frederic remains a viable trade candidate. The Maple Leafs could pursue him if they are willing to wait for his recovery and see him as a valuable addition to their bottom-six forward group.
