Anyone familiar with Kentucky Wildcats football already knew cornerback Maxwell Hairston was fast, but the rest of the football world got a jaw-dropping glimpse of his speed on Friday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. Hairston, nicknamed “Mad Max,” tore up the turf at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, clocking an astonishing 4.29-second 40-yard dash during defensive back workouts. His run hit a top speed of over 24 MPH, making it the fastest time at the Combine so far and one of the quickest ever recorded by a defensive back.
Hairston’s record-setting dash included a blazing 1.50-second 10-yard split, achieved on his second attempt after posting a 4.30 in his first run. He also showcased his agility and footwork during positional drills, further solidifying his status as a standout performer. While Hairston has been widely projected as a Day 2 draft pick, his electrifying Combine performance could shake up those predictions and push him higher up the board.
