Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet has earned a rather unusual nickname, courtesy of NESN’s Lou Merloni: “The Pig.” While it might sound odd at first, the moniker is a term of endearment. Merloni coined the nickname after watching Crochet pitch for the first time, describing his “filthy” stuff as something only a pig could embody.

Crochet, for his part, seems to embrace the quirky nickname. In a recent interview with the *Section 10* podcast, he said, “I like ‘The Pig.’ It’s blowing up in my Instagram comments. My wife thinks it’s hilarious, so I’m just rolling with it for her sake right now.”
Merloni has been relentless in promoting the nickname, and it’s likely to stick around for a while. Crochet is set to start on Opening Day in Texas, marking the first of what the Red Sox hope will be many “National Pig Days” as they look to their young ace to lead the way in 2025.
