Orioles and Jack Flaherty Eye Winter Reunion After Impressive Bounce-Back Season
According to a report from MLB Trade Rumors’ Mark Polishuk, the Orioles and Jack Flaherty are open to a potential reunion this winter, following the right-hander’s strong bounce-back season after a rough stint in Baltimore.
Flaherty’s initial performance with the Orioles in 2023, after being acquired from the Cardinals, was underwhelming with a 6.75 ERA over 34 2/3 innings. However, both Flaherty and the Orioles are reportedly open to reuniting after his successful 2024 season.
Flaherty Shines in 2024, Proving He’s Back to His Ace Form
Flaherty’s performance in 2024 showcased a remarkable turnaround, posting a 2.95 ERA and 0.956 WHIP in 18 starts for the Detroit Tigers, earning him a spot as an All-MLB Second Team honoree.
His form remained elite after joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he finished the season strong with a 3.58 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his final 10 starts. Given his outstanding performance, Baltimore could benefit from adding him back to their rotation.
Orioles Need to Replace Corbin Burnes, Making Flaherty a Top Target
The Orioles recently lost ace Corbin Burnes to the Arizona Diamondbacks in free agency, creating a need for a top-tier arm to remain competitive in the American League.
Flaherty, who excelled as a temporary ace for the Dodgers and played a pivotal role in their World Series win, could be the answer. With his proven ability to step up in big moments, he could be the right fit for Baltimore’s pitching staff.
Flaherty’s Contract Could Be a Big Investment for Orioles
Flaherty is expected to sign a multi-year deal worth $100 million or more, and with a projected $129.2 million payroll for next season, the Orioles could make a splash by offering Flaherty a contract around $20 million per year. This investment could pay off tremendously, enhancing their chances for a deep playoff run and a World Series title.
