Despite the New York Giants suffering their fourth straight loss in Week 9, head coach Brian Daboll is sticking with Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback. After the game, Daboll confirmed that he has no plans to bench Jones and that he will remain under center for Week 10.
Daboll also clarified that there will be no changes to the practice rotation, with all three quarterbacks—Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito—remaining involved in the mix, according to NFL columnist Pat Leonard.
Behind Jones on the depth chart are former second-round pick Drew Lock and 2023 fan favorite Tommy DeVito. Both have starting experience, though their situations differ.
DeVito stepped in for six games in 2023 while both Jones and Tyrod Taylor were injured, posting a 3-3 record with some ups and downs. Lock, on the other hand, hasn’t started in quite some time but brings a 9-14 record as a career starter, mostly with the Denver Broncos.
While Jones has been largely ineffective in 2024, he showed signs of improvement in Week 9, delivering one of his better performances of the season against the Washington Commanders.
He passed for 174 yards and three total touchdowns with no interceptions. However, he did lose a fumble early in the game that led to a Washington touchdown. Despite this, Daboll is standing firm in his commitment to Jones as the team’s quarterback.
The Giants’ Week 10 matchup is technically a home game but will be played in Munich, Germany, as part of the NFL’s international series. They will face the Carolina Panthers, another team struggling with quarterback issues. The Panthers had benched 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton earlier this season, only to see Dalton lead the team to a win in Week 9 while Young was sidelined.
With both teams in turmoil and dealing with quarterback uncertainties, the Week 10 game in Munich is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for both the Giants and Panthers as they look to get their seasons back on track.
