BREAKING: Major Boost As Giants Lock In Veteran QB as Aaron Rodgers Trade Rumors Heat Up with Vikings!

The New York Giants added an experienced quarterback on Saturday as the quarterback market begins to shift ahead of free agency, which starts with the new league year on March 12.

On Friday night, the Seattle Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing the veteran QB back to reunite with Pete Carroll. With Smith now in Las Vegas, the Seahawks are expected to make a move for Sam Darnold after his strong 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings. Following the news about Rodgers and Minnesota, the Giants quickly announced that they had re-signed quarterback Tommy DeVito to the roster.

“The New York Giants today re-signed quarterback Tommy DeVito,” wrote Dan Salomone for the team. “The 26-year-old New Jersey native originally joined the team as an undrafted rookie in 2023 and has started eight games, including six in his first season.”

DeVito completed 145 of 222 passes (65.3% completion) with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 12 games. He also rushed 44 times for 227 yards (5.2 yards per attempt) and another touchdown. DeVito holds a 3-5 record as a starter.

The Giants now have a reliable backup in place, regardless of what happens with Aaron Rodgers. If Rodgers follows in Brett Favre’s footsteps and heads to Minnesota, New York will need to move quickly to find another free agent quarterback.

Rodgers has become a “dark horse” candidate for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are bringing back J.J. McCarthy after his knee injury last season and are reportedly looking for a veteran to compete for the starting job with McCarthy. Aaron Rodgers is now considered a potential option for both the Vikings and the Giants, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“Aaron Rodgers is a dark horse, with the Giants and Vikings as potential destinations,” Rapoport said. While Rodgers was initially expected to be a top target for the Giants in 2025, the four-time MVP could end up joining Minnesota, a team that was one game away from winning the NFC North and made the playoffs in a rebuilding season.
