MAJOR-UPDATE; Trade Alert: Yankees Set To Trade For $50 Million Mets All-Star After Losing Gleyber Torres.

The New York Yankees may have lost Juan Soto to the Mets this offseason, but they quickly responded by trading for Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams to soften the blow. Still, they might make one more move to complete their infield. FanSided’s Jacob Mountz suggested the Yankees target Mets All-Star Jeff McNeil to replace Gleyber Torres, who signed with the Detroit Tigers.

McNeil, known for his slap-hitting style and pull approach, isn’t typically a power hitter, but in Yankee Stadium, that could change dramatically.

Baseball Savant projects that, considering park and environmental factors, McNeil would have hit 19 home runs in Yankee Stadium, compared to just 12 in 2024. Though McNeil won a batting title in 2022, he had a down year in 2024, posting a .238/.308/.384 slash line. A fresh start might be just what he needs.

McNeil, who signed a four-year, $50 million contract in 2023, turns 33 this season and is owed $15.75 million for the next two years, with a club option for 2027 at the same price. Trading McNeil would provide the Mets with a solid return and some financial flexibility, which could help them re-sign Pete Alonso.

The Yankees could be looking for a second baseman, with DJ LeMahieu potentially filling that role. However, LeMahieu has battled injuries and has posted a .232 batting average over the last two seasons. Adding McNeil would give the Yankees a strong infield of Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe, McNeil, and Paul Goldschmidt.
