Daniel Jones Signs with the Colts
After failing to trade up for one of the top three quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Giants entered the season with Daniel Jones as their starter. However, he couldn’t return to his 2022 form, struggling early on. Starting 10 games, Jones completed 63.3% of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Midway through the season, the Giants cut him, and he joined the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad but didn’t play in any games.
Jones entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2019 draft, selected by the New York Giants. After initially serving as the backup to two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning, Jones quickly became the starter when Manning struggled. In his rookie season, he played in 13 games, starting 12, and finished with 3,027 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, completing 61.9% of his passes.

However, Jones’ performance declined in the following two seasons. Despite not having a winning record and posting underwhelming stats, the Giants chose not to exercise his fifth-year option and replaced head coach Joe Judge with Brian Daboll. Under Daboll’s guidance, Jones had the best season of his career in the final year of his rookie contract, starting 16 games and leading the Giants to the playoffs, where they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round.
As a result, the Giants rewarded Jones with a four-year, $160 million extension, only to regret it later. In 2023, Jones regressed to his previous form, completing 67.5% of his passes for 909 yards, with just two touchdowns and six interceptions in six games.
