The Kansas City Chiefs remain the NFL’s only undefeated team, standing at 8-0 as they prepare for an AFC West showdown against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Last week, the Chiefs secured a 30-24 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following the game, they made a roster move, releasing linebacker Cole Christiansen, only to quickly resign him to the practice squad.
According to Matt Derrick, if Christiansen had been released after Tuesday, he would have had to go through waivers, as his release came just before the trade deadline.
Christiansen, 27, first joined the Chiefs in 2022 after spending two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He primarily worked on the practice squad but appeared in 12 regular-season games, with six of those coming in 2024. He was promoted to the active roster ahead of Week 3 and has since played in 62% of the Chiefs’ special teams snaps.
This move is a minor adjustment as the Chiefs prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Broncos. Kansas City also dealt with some injuries, as wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton missed Wednesday’s practice. The team has a few more practices before game day and hopes to have both players back in action.
The Chiefs are looking to extend their perfect record to 9-0 and enter the game as 8.5-point favorites over the Broncos.
