The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed quarterback Bailey Zappe to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The move comes just one day after the Chiefs added veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew to provide depth behind superstar Patrick Mahomes.
Zappe’s NFL journey has been anything but ordinary. Drafted by the New England Patriots in 2022, he initially signed a four-year deal but was waived in August 2024. He quickly landed on the Chiefs’ practice squad before being picked up by the Cleveland Browns’ active roster on October 22. Last season, Zappe started just one game—the Browns’ regular-season finale against the Baltimore Ravens on January 4—where he threw for 170 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
With this new deal, the 25-year-old Zappe returns to Kansas City, where he’s expected to serve as the third-string quarterback behind Mahomes and Minshew. The Chiefs’ quarterback room now features a mix of elite talent, veteran experience, and developmental potential as they prepare for the 2025 season.
