The New York Yankees may have missed out on signing slugger Juan Soto in a high-profile free agent race, but they are strategically reallocating the funds they saved to enhance their roster in other areas.
In recent days, the Yankees have made several significant additions, and now they are reportedly in the running to acquire third baseman Alex Bregman, formerly of the Houston Astros. Bregman, widely regarded as the best position player still available on the free agent market, could be the next major piece added to New York’s roster.
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Bregman, 30, is expected to land a contract worth around $200 million. His market remains strong, with several big-market teams still having substantial funds to spend as the year draws to a close. Passan pointed out that the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are both in need of a third baseman, and the Yankees could consider moving Jazz Chisholm Jr.
from third to second base to make room for Bregman. Additionally, the New York Mets could also make adjustments to their infield, possibly shifting Mark Vientos to first base to accommodate Bregman.

Bregman is a two-time All-Star (2018, 2019) and a two-time World Series champion (2017, 2022), achievements that reflect his impressive nine-year career in Major League Baseball. In addition to his success on the field, Bregman earned a Gold Glove award last season, highlighting his defensive prowess.
Over the course of his career, Bregman has maintained a .272 batting average, a .366 on-base percentage, and a .483 slugging percentage, according to Baseball Reference, showcasing his consistency and power as a top-tier infielder. With his combination of offensive and defensive skills, Bregman would be a valuable addition to any team looking to bolster their lineup.
