BREAKING: Shocking Move As South Carolina Transfer QB Robby Ashford Commits to Wake Forest – His Fourth School in Just Five Years!

After spending a season as a backup quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks, Robby Ashford is transferring to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. During the 2023 season, Ashford made one start, playing against the Akron Zips. In that game, he threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 133 yards and one touchdown.

Before his time at South Carolina, Ashford redshirted at Oregon before transferring to Auburn. The 6-foot-2, 229-pound quarterback played for two seasons with the Auburn Tigers, including a starting role in 2022. However, in 2023, Auburn shifted to Patrick Thorne as the starter, leading to Ashford’s decision to transfer to South Carolina.

Wake Forest’s quarterback situation for next season is uncertain, with Michael Kern and Hank Bachmeier exhausting their eligibility. However, the Demon Deacons still have Jeremy Hecklinsky and Tyler Mizzell on the roster.

Additionally, head coach Jake Dickert has brought in new quarterbacks, including former Washington State commit Steele Pizzella and Elijiah Oehlke. Given his substantial playing experience, Ashford could have a strong chance of securing the starting quarterback position at Wake Forest.

Over the course of his career, Ashford has completed 160 of 309 passes for 2,082 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He has also accumulated 1,154 rushing yards on 240 attempts, with 14 touchdowns.

While Wake Forest has lost 19 players to the transfer portal, Coach Dickert is working to bolster the roster, having secured five new portal commitments since January 2. Ashford’s experience and skill set should position him as a contender for the starting role with the Demon Deacons.
