FOXBOROUGH, Mass.** – The New England Patriots have made roster moves ahead of the new season, releasing four players: linebacker Curtis Jacobs, offensive tackle Caleb Jones, linebacker Andrew Parker Jr., and center Lecitus Smith.
Curtis Jacobs, 23, joined the Patriots last August after being claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. The Penn State product originally signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted rookie but saw limited action in 2024, recording just one defensive tackle and three special teams stops before landing on injured reserve in November.
Caleb Jones, a towering 6-foot-9, 370-pound tackle, was picked up by New England’s practice squad in September 2024 after being cut by the Green Bay Packers. The Indiana alum briefly made Green Bay’s active roster in 2022 but couldn’t secure a long-term role. He inked a futures deal with the Patriots in January but now finds himself looking for a new team.
Andrew Parker Jr., a 24-year-old linebacker from Appalachian State, joined the Patriots’ practice squad late in the 2024 season after a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite signing a futures contract in January, he was let go in this latest wave of cuts.
Lecitus Smith, 26, had a journeyman career before landing in New England. Drafted by Arizona in 2022, the Virginia Tech alum bounced between practice squads before the Patriots signed him from Green Bay last October. He played eight games, even starting once as a tackle-eligible tight end, but couldn’t secure his spot long-term.
What’s Next? These cuts suggest the Patriots are refining their roster ahead of free agency and the draft. Could bigger moves be coming? Stay tuned as New England reshapes its squad for 2025.
