The Tigers’ 2025 season came to an abrupt end with a stunning first-round loss to McNeese State, cutting short what many believed could be a Final Four run. The early departure has forced Brad Brownell into immediate action as he looks to rebuild a roster that’s losing nearly its entire core – including starters Chase Hunter, Ian Schieffelin, Viktor Lakhin, and key contributors Jaeden Zackery (who may still return), Del Jones, Asa Thomas, and Chauncey Wiggins.
With the transfer portal opening controversially during the NCAA Tournament, Brownell has wasted no time pursuing top talent. His primary target? Valparaiso standout Cooper Schwieger, one of the most sought-after transfers available. The 6’9″ forward has narrowed his choices to four schools after eliminating Kansas: Clemson, Wake Forest, Northwestern, and Michigan.
Schwieger’s impressive sophomore campaign (15.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 2.0 BPG) makes him an ideal candidate to help replace Clemson’s departing frontcourt production. His ability to stretch the floor (30% from three) while protecting the rim would provide immediate help for a Tigers squad looking to rebound from their disappointing tournament exit.
As Brownell works to reconstruct his roster, landing a prized transfer like Schwieger could be the first step in returning Clemson to contender status. With several more spots to fill, expect the Tigers to remain active in what promises to be a crucial portal season for the program.
