The New York Yankees are set to begin their 2025 MLB season on Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite facing significant injury challenges, the team enters the season with sky-high expectations after falling short to the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year’s World Series.
Aaron Judge, coming off an incredible 2024 season, will look to continue his dominance. In 158 games last year, the towering outfielder hit 58 home runs, drove in 144 RBIs, and posted a .322 batting average. His stellar performance earned him his second AL MVP award, second Hank Aaron Award, and fourth Silver Slugger Award, alongside a sixth All-Star selection, third All-MLB First Team honor, and the AL lead in both home runs and RBIs.

Despite his spectacular 2024, Judge had a quiet Spring Training, struggling at the plate with just one home run, five RBIs, and a low .121 batting average. However, he did quietly achieve a personal goal. In early March, Judge shared with MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch that he aimed for 40 to 50 plate appearances during Spring Training.
He met that goal, finishing with 41 plate appearances, which he believes will help the Yankees get off to a strong start in April. In contrast, Judge’s April performance last year saw him hit six home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .220 batting average over 27 games. It will be interesting to see how Judge and the Yankees fare in the 2025 season as they look to bounce back.
