INSIDER; Home Opener Horror Show: Brewers Embarrassed in Emotional 11-1 Rout

Brewers’ Nightmare Start Continues With 11-1 Drubbing by Royals

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers’ 2025 season has begun in disastrous fashion, falling to 0-4 after an  11-1 shellacking by the Kansas City Royals at American Family Field. What was supposed to be a celebratory home opener—honoring the late, legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker—quickly turned into another frustrating chapter of the Brewers’ early-season collapse.

A Day of Mixed Emotions
The emotional pregame tribute to Uecker was overshadowed by another lackluster performance, with associate manager Rickie Weeks getting ejected and the Brewers never threatening in the game.

“It was an awesome day… until it got out of hand,” manager Pat Murphy admitted. “To honor Ueck in front of a packed house was special. But obviously, the result wasn’t what we wanted.”

Pitching Woes Continue
Starter Elvin Rodriguez was rocked early, surrendering 4 runs in the first two innings, setting the tone for another rough night. The Brewers’ offense offered little resistance, mustering just 6 hits and 1 run against Royals lefty Kris Bubic and the Kansas City bullpen.

Murphy acknowledged the team’s struggles, particularly with a decimated pitching staff, but stressed that the offense must step up:
“When you’re down, can you steal? Can you hit and run? Right now, we’re not doing the little things that made us successful.”

Historic Slow Start
– 0-4 for the first time since 2015 (when they were outscored 26-8 in their first four)
– 47 runs allowed in 4 games—worst in MLB
– 15 runs scored—among the league’s lowest

Despite the ugly numbers, Christian Yelich tried to keep perspective:
It’s just four games, but we’ve got to be better. This isn’t acceptable.

**A Glimmer of Hope?**
The Brewers have overcome slow starts before—including in 2011, when they opened 0-4 but went on to win 96 games and the NL Central.

Now, they’ll turn to rookie Chad Patrick (Milwaukee’s No. 28 prospect) in Tuesday’s game, hoping he can stop the bleeding and deliver the team’s **first win of 2025**.

*One thing’s certain: If the Brewers don’t turn things around soon, this early slump could sink their season before it really begins.*
