The Minnesota Vikings are steadily moving toward making 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy their starting quarterback in 2025. A significant part of their confidence in McCarthy, who missed his rookie season due to a torn meniscus, comes from the strong supporting cast around him, including superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, is known for his love of gaming and often streams his sessions on Twitch.
During a recent Twitch live stream, he responded humorously to a playful recruiting attempt. While streaming with Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase—his former college teammate—on March 30, Chase joked, “Hey, chat. I can get Justin to come to the Bengals, y’all.” Jefferson quickly shot down the idea with a deadpan response: “Ya can’t. They just gave Uno [Chase] the keys to the crib. I can’t have the keys to the crib too.”
Chase had recently signed a massive four-year, $161 million deal with the Bengals, which surpassed Jefferson’s own four-year, $140 million contract signed in 2024, making him the highest-paid offensive skill player at the time. Jefferson still holds the title for the most guaranteed money in a deal, with $88.7 million compared to Chase’s $73.9 million.
Given Jefferson’s production and age, he’s likely to secure another major contract extension before he turns 30.
During that same stream, a fan asked Jefferson to replace former Vikings QB Sam Darnold with McCarthy in “Madden 25.”
Jefferson’s reaction could offer a glimpse of what is to come next season.
