EXCLUSIVE; Red Raiders in Heated Battle for Elite Big 12 Lineman! Will Tech Win the Race?

Texas Tech Pushing to Land Promising Oklahoma Offensive Lineman

For years, Texas Tech’s offensive line has been a weak point, but head coach Joey McGuire is determined to change that. Using a combination of transfer portal additions for immediate impact and high school recruiting for long-term stability, McGuire is working to solidify the position group. One player who could help the Red Raiders in the future is Oklahoma native Kaden Moody, who recently included Texas Tech in his top four schools.

On Wednesday, Moody announced via social media that Texas Tech, Kansas, Purdue, and Tulsa are his finalists. This recruitment battle appears favorable for the Red Raiders. Kansas lacks Tech’s financial investment in football, Purdue is coming off a dismal 1-11 season (0-9 in Big Ten play), and Tulsa, as a Group of Five program, doesn’t compete at the same level. Additionally, Texas Tech now boasts some of the best facilities in the nation, thanks to the new $242 million Womble Football Center.

A three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Moody is ranked as the No. 52 offensive tackle in the class of 2026 and the No. 10 overall player in Oklahoma. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound standout from Broken Arrow was dominant last season, not allowing a single sack in 11 games, according to 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks. Moody also showcased his versatility by playing defensive line, using his size and strength to be a force in the trenches.

Since taking over at Texas Tech, McGuire has worked tirelessly to overhaul the offensive line. Since 2022, he has brought in 31 offensive linemen, including 12 transfers, and has signed at least six O-linemen in every recruiting class. However, despite those efforts, the position group has yet to see a major transformation. Most transfer additions have come from Group of Five programs and have struggled to make a significant impact in the Big 12. Meanwhile, high school recruits often require time to develop the size and strength necessary to compete at a Power Five level.

That’s why offensive line recruiting is a numbers game. The position requires five starters at a time, and finding elite linemen is a challenge due to the rare blend of size and agility needed for success. Texas Tech isn’t backing down, though. According to 247Sports, the Red Raiders have extended offers to 32 offensive linemen in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Moody is one of those key targets, and Texas Tech appears to be in a strong position to land him. If McGuire can secure his commitment, Moody could become an essential piece in the Red Raiders’ effort to finally build a dominant offensive line in West Texas.
