The NFL’s Hard Knocks series has been around for years, but the Minnesota Vikings have never been featured due to not meeting the league’s criteria. However, recent rule changes now make the Vikings eligible for the show. To be considered, teams must meet three conditions:
1. The team must not have a first-year head coach.
2. The team cannot be in a division that is already scheduled for the Hard Knocks: In-Season show for the upcoming or following season.
3. The team must not have been featured on Hard Knocks in the past eight seasons.
Previously, teams that made the playoffs in at least one of the last two seasons were exempt from being forced into the show, but that exception has been removed.
The in-season version of Hard Knocks rotates through NFL divisions, and with the AFC North featured last season, the NFC North could be next. If that happens, the Vikings wouldn’t be eligible for the Training Camp edition of the show.
While some fans may be excited about the idea of the Vikings getting the Hard Knocks spotlight, others are uncertain if it would be a distraction. While head coach Kevin O’Connell is capable of keeping things under control, there’s always a risk of things getting out of hand.
Now that one of the restrictions has been lifted, the Vikings may finally get their turn in the spotlight. We’ll find out when the league announces their decision.
