The Bruins outbid several teams for Cornell power forward Dalton Bancroft, who signed a one-year deal with Boston on Thursday. Bancroft will report to Providence to finish the current season on an amateur tryout agreement before his contract officially kicks in. His one-year deal, worth $950,000, will begin in the 2025-26 season, giving the Bruins a promising asset for the future.
Several teams, including the Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers, were reportedly in the mix for Bancroft’s signature, but it was Boston that managed to secure his commitment. The forward, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 207 pounds, will bring his physical presence to the Bruins organization.
Bancroft had an impressive college career, posting 15 goals and 12 assists in 36 games for Cornell, where he played alongside Bruins draft pick Ryan Walsh. Walsh led the Big Red with 17 goals and 14 assists, helping Bancroft develop into a key offensive contributor. Their strong chemistry on the ice has been a standout feature of Cornell’s recent success.
The 24-year-old forward, a native of Madoc, Ontario, has a rich hockey background, having played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before joining Cornell. Over the course of his college career, Bancroft amassed 36 goals and 43 assists for a total of 79 points in 103 games, showcasing his all-around offensive ability.
With his impressive numbers and potential for growth, Bancroft will look to make an impact in the Bruins’ system once his contract begins. His signing further bolsters the Bruins’ depth and future prospects, as they continue to build a competitive roster for years to come.
