BREAKING; Wrigley Is Back: What You Must Know Before the Cubs’ Epic Home Opener!

Although the Chicago Cubs are already nine games into the 2025 MLB season, they’ve yet to play in front of their home crowd at Wrigley Field. That finally changes this Friday afternoon, as the Cubs welcome the red-hot, undefeated San Diego Padres for their home opener.

Keeping with Wrigley tradition, first pitch is set for 1:20 p.m.

The Cubs’ season kicked off in dramatic fashion overseas, beginning March 18 in Japan with a two-game series against the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers—both of which they lost. From there, they split a four-game matchup in Arizona before sweeping the Athletics in a three-game series at their temporary West Coast home, Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

On the mound Friday, Cubs’ lefty Shota Imanaga is expected to start opposite Randy Vásquez, as the Padres look to stay perfect and join the Dodgers as the only 8-0 teams in the league.

This year, Wrigley Field is spicing things up with over 50 new food options rotating throughout the season. For opening weekend, fans can try unique eats like a roast beef jibarito sandwich served on fried plantains with garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato, and garlic butter, or chili lime fries topped with Tajín, cotija cheese, and corn crema.

Other creative bites include short rib sliders, puffy tacos, and homemade chicken and waffles, all found at “Marquee Classics” near section 117. Don’t worry—fan favorites like Home Run Inn pizza, Vienna Beef hot dogs, and Garrett’s Popcorn aren’t going anywhere.

After wrapping up the series with the Padres, the Cubs will stay home for a showdown with the Texas Rangers early next week before heading west to face the Dodgers once again in Los Angeles.
