The Atlanta Braves’ 2025 season has gotten off to a rough start, with the team currently sitting at a disappointing 1-7 record. However, help may be on the way soon. According to Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game, catcher Sean Murphy could make his return from injury in the near future.
Murphy is set to catch nine innings for Gwinnett on Sunday, and there’s a possibility he could be activated from the injured list in time for the Braves’ series opener against the Phillies on Tuesday.
Murphy, who is recovering from a rib injury, is one of the top catchers in MLB. But he’s not the only key player who could return soon. Star pitcher Spencer Strider is making progress, and Ronald Acuña Jr. remains sidelined but is also expected to come back fairly soon.
Despite the slow start, there’s still hope for the Braves. Murphy, 30, joined the team in 2023 after playing for the Athletics and earned an All-Star nod in his first season with Atlanta.
While his 2024 campaign was challenging, limited to just 72 games, Murphy is focused on returning to form in 2025. His return would be a crucial boost for the Braves, especially with the Phillies—who lead the NL East and are contenders for a championship—coming to town.
The Braves will continue to monitor Murphy’s recovery and provide updates as more information becomes available.
