BREAKING-NEWS: RAIN, DRAMA & A BOMBSHELL FINISH! Ozuna Saves Braves with Epic 11th-Inning Blast vs. Phillies

Ozuna’s 11th-Inning Blast Lifts Braves Past Phillies in Rain-Delayed Thriller

Marcell Ozuna crushed a two-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Atlanta Braves a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in a game that wrapped up at 12:53 a.m. Friday, following a lengthy 2-hour, 45-minute rain delay in the sixth inning.

After the Phillies grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the 11th, Austin Riley tied it with an RBI double scoring Ozzie Albies. Ozuna then launched his second home run of the season into the left field seats at a mostly empty Truist Park.

Kyle Schwarber had earlier put the Phillies on the board with a solo homer — his sixth in 12 games — off Braves rookie Spencer Schwellenbach in the third inning, ending Schwellenbach’s season-opening scoreless streak at 16 innings.

Despite walking three in the 11th, José Suarez (1-0) earned the win, while Joe Ross (1-1) was tagged with the loss. Matt Olson drove in Atlanta’s first run with an RBI groundout in the first.

Both starting pitchers—Schwellenbach and Philadelphia’s Jesús Luzardo—held things steady through six innings, each allowing one run before the rain delay froze the action at 1-1.

Nick Castellanos had a golden opportunity to put the Phillies ahead in the 10th but struck out for the fifth time in his first game batting cleanup.

The Braves, who have struggled to start the season, took two out of three in the series and improved to 3-8. They head to Tampa Bay still searching for their first road win (0-7), while the Phillies continue their road trip in St. Louis.
