MAJOR NEWS: Juan Soto To Remain With Yankees In A Blockbuster Deal Getting Over $600 Million.

MLB executives anticipate that the New York Yankees will successfully re-sign Juan Soto during free agency. Soto, the most coveted free agent this offseason, has attracted significant interest from various teams. The Yankees and the New York Mets are viewed as the leading contenders to secure his services, with most executives believing that Soto will ultimately stay with the Yankees.

A survey of 18 MLB executives conducted by ESPN revealed that 12 of them expect Soto to remain with the Yankees, with 11 believing he could sign a deal exceeding $600 million. One executive from a smaller market pointed out, “Do you think George Steinbrenner would let one of the best players in the world leave? He’s in pinstripes now.” Despite the Dodgers’ growing prominence, the Yankees are still seen as the place where Soto will stay.

Several executives believe that Soto is an ideal fit for the Yankees’ lineup, and that the team cannot afford to lose him. They expect the Yankees to offer him the most lucrative contract in order to keep him. “I think Brian Cashman will show ownership just how valuable he is to their lineup,” one executive said.

In 2024, Soto delivered an impressive performance for the Yankees, batting .288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs.

While the majority of executives foresee Soto re-signing with the Yankees, one remains confident that the Mets will ultimately outbid them. Soto and his agent, Scott Boras, are known to seek the highest offer, and Mets owner Steve Cohen has made it clear he’s willing to spend big. One executive believes the Mets’ track record with high-profile signings, like Francisco Lindor, could persuade Soto to join them.

Cohen has reportedly expressed to Boras that he is prepared to increase any rival offer by $50 million. MLB insider Michael Kay of YES Network confirmed that Cohen has shown strong interest in securing Soto. The Mets have already met with Soto and Boras in California, signaling their intent to pursue him aggressively.

The Yankees also had their own meeting with Soto in California, and team owner Hal Steinbrenner described it as “good.” He acknowledged the importance of retaining Soto, especially considering his key role in helping the Yankees reach the World Series. However, when asked about the likelihood of re-signing Soto, Steinbrenner gave a more cautious response, stating, “No idea. We’ll be in the mix. I’ll leave it at that.” Soto is expected to receive offers nearing $700 million on a potential 13-year contract.
