BREAKING; Shocking Exit: Former Vikings Fan-Favorite DB Announces Retirement Out of Nowhere!

The Minnesota Vikings have been relatively quiet lately after making a series of early free-agent moves back in March. Since then, head coach Kevin O’Connell and GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah appear to have shifted focus to the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, set to begin on April 24.

Meanwhile, a familiar face from a previous Vikings era is calling it a career. Patrick Peterson, the veteran cornerback who joined Minnesota in the 2021 offseason under Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman, is officially retiring.

Peterson, who played the majority of his career with the Arizona Cardinals, will sign a one-day contract with the team on Monday to retire as a Cardinal. He spent 154 games with Arizona, earning all three of his First-Team All-Pro honors and eight Pro Bowl selections there.

During his two-year stint in Minnesota, Peterson racked up 111 tackles, six interceptions, and 20 pass breakups over 30 games. He was a key veteran presence in the secondary during the transition from Zimmer to Ed Donatell but departed the same offseason Brian Flores took over as defensive coordinator.

According to Pro Football Reference, Peterson holds a Hall of Fame Monitor score of 86.10—just shy of the average 96.93 for Hall of Fame defensive backs. Still, he holds the highest score among all eligible DBs not currently enshrined in Canton.
