The New York Yankees have been active this offseason following their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. After losing outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Mets, the Yankees have made several key additions to strengthen their roster for the 2025 season.
Among the new faces are starting pitcher Max Fried, outfielder Cody Bellinger, and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. In addition to these high-profile signings, the Yankees also secured Devin Williams, who is expected to be their closer for the upcoming season.
Manager Aaron Boone recently shared how long he’s admired Williams and wanted him on the team. The Yankees acquired Williams in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent his entire six-year MLB career.

Williams, known for his dominant relief pitching, has posted a sub-2.00 ERA four times, including last season. In 2024, he appeared in 22 games, finishing with a 1-0 record, 14 saves, a 1.25 ERA, and 38 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched. Boone is hopeful Williams can bring that same level of success to the Yankees’ bullpen.
However, while Williams has been excellent in the regular season, he faced challenges in the postseason. In the 2024 playoffs, Williams pitched just 1.2 innings, allowing three hits, four earned runs, one home run, and one walk, resulting in a troubling 21.60 ERA.
