BIG-NEWS: Giants Seemingly Narrow Rookie QB Search Down to 4 Candidates: Who’s in And Who’s Out

Giants Narrow QB Focus with Surprise Private Workouts Ahead of NFL Draft

Late on April 14, the New York Giants made waves by scheduling a private workout with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders—and the quarterback evaluations didn’t stop there.

On April 15, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are also holding private sessions with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Louisville’s Tyler Shough, joining Sanders in the mix. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan later added that Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart had already gone through a private workout with New York earlier this spring.

According to Raanan, “Dart, Sanders, Milroe, and Shough are QBs to watch,” and private workouts are a key part of head coach Brian Daboll’s pre-draft quarterback evaluation process. For now, it appears the Giants have narrowed their focus to these four passers—though Syracuse QB Kyle McCord also visited with the team on April 14, possibly positioning himself as a dark horse candidate.

None of these quarterbacks are expected to go at the very top of the draft, making pick No. 34—or a trade into the late first round—a likely landing spot for whichever signal-caller New York targets.

The Giants’ QB Options Are Varied—and Intriguing

According to Dane Brugler’s draft guide “The Beast,” Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, and Jalen Milroe are ranked QB2 through QB5 for the 2025 class, just behind top-ranked Cam Ward. Kyle McCord sits at QB7.

What’s interesting is that all these quarterbacks offer different skillsets, making it tough to predict who best fits Daboll’s system. Milroe, a dual-threat powerhouse with physical traits similar to Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts, could be a natural fit. Sanders, praised for his accuracy and poise, has drawn comparisons to Russell Wilson—a curious parallel given New York’s recent signing of Wilson.

Dart and Shough are strong-armed, system-friendly risers with mobility and upside. Dart’s name carries weight in New York thanks to Eli Manning, but questions remain about how his game will translate. Shough, while 6’5” with good tools, carries durability concerns. McCord, meanwhile, may be the best pocket passer of the group but lacks mobility.

Who’s Missing from the Giants’ QB Radar?

One name notably absent from the Giants’ workout list is expected No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, who’s projected to land with Tennessee or Cleveland. Others like Quinn Ewers, Will Howard, Dillon Gabriel, and Riley Leonard—ranked just behind the Giants’ known targets—have not received private workouts or top-30 visits, according to NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton.

If private workouts are as important to Daboll’s draft strategy as Raanan suggests, it’s safe to say the Giants likely won’t be targeting those names.
