The New York Giants are still on the hunt for offensive playmakers, and according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, they’ve set their sights on a well-known rival: Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert.
With lingering concerns at tight end and a clear need for reliable receiving options, the Giants are reportedly eyeing the 30-year-old veteran as a potential upgrade. Goedert had a solid 2024 season, catching 59 passes for 711 yards and three touchdowns, while posting a standout 83.1% catch rate. More than just a safety valve, he’s a dependable short-to-intermediate threat who can challenge defenses with his route running and create mismatches against linebackers and safeties.
In addition to his receiving ability, Goedert brings value as a blocker—something that fits perfectly with head coach Brian Daboll’s scheme, which leans on tight ends to contribute both in the passing game and on the ground.
Contract & Cap Outlook
Goedert enters the final year of his four-year, $57 million contract and carries a cap hit just under $12 million for the upcoming season. With the Eagles being mindful of their cap situation and the 2025 draft class rich in tight end prospects, they could see this as an opportunity to reset with a younger, cheaper option—especially if a mid-round pick comes back in return.
The Giants, meanwhile, have Daniel Bellinger and sophomore Theo Johnson currently on the roster. Bellinger has shown promise as a blocker but hasn’t firmly claimed the TE1 role, while Johnson showed flashes late in his rookie campaign. Adding Goedert would immediately make him the top option at the position, allowing Johnson to develop as a TE2 and potentially pushing Bellinger into a depth role or onto the trade block.
A Smart Fit for a Team Desperate for Offensive Help
Acquiring Goedert would be a clear sign the Giants are committed to giving Russell Wilson the tools he needs to succeed, particularly in the middle of the field where consistency has been lacking. The team’s passing game has struggled with rhythm and reliability, and a veteran like Goedert could bring both stability and leadership.
While trading within the division is always tricky, the timing may be right. If the Eagles are open to a soft reset at tight end, the Giants could be in a prime position to pounce.

Since entering the NFL in 2018, Goedert has quietly become one of the league’s most dependable and complete tight ends. He’s played a pivotal role in Philadelphia’s deep playoff runs and remains a balanced contributor as both a pass-catcher and blocker—something the Giants sorely need as they look to rebuild their offense from the ground up.
