JUST-NOW: Giants Dead Last in NFL Cap Space as Dolphins Dangle Superstar Jalen Ramsey — Blockbuster Trade Incoming?”

The Miami Dolphins have made it official: Jalen Ramsey is available via trade. While the team has firmly denied any intention of moving star wide receiver Tyreek Hill — even amid recent off-field controversies — they’re taking a different approach with their All-Pro cornerback.

General Manager Chris Grier confirmed the shift in direction, saying the organization put a lot of thought into the decision. “These decisions aren’t made quickly or lightly,” Grier said. “Jalen didn’t request a trade, but after multiple discussions with him and his agent, we agreed it was best for both sides to move forward. It’s in the best interest of both the Dolphins and Jalen.

So, should the New York Giants consider making a move? While Ramsey could fill a clear need at cornerback, it’s unlikely. Not because of his age — though he’s entering his 31-year-old season — but because of the financial burden.

Ramsey is owed over $24 million in salary for 2025, and would count $16.5 million against the cap. Miami would take on an $8 million hit if they moved him before the draft, making a post-draft deal more likely.

As for the Giants, they’re in no position to spend — with just $1.1 million in cap space, the lowest in the NFL. Simply put, it’s not a financial fit.

Grier acknowledged the difficulty of letting a player of Ramsey’s caliber go. “It’s never easy to replace someone like Jalen. He’s been great for us, and he’ll probably end up in the Hall of Fame. But we believe this is the right move for the future of the Dolphins — not just this season, but beyond.”
