BREAKING; Braves Shake Up Outfield: Former Top Prospect Alex Verdugo Gets the Call Amid Slump

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Atlanta Braves have brought back outfielder Alex Verdugo from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of their upcoming home series against the Minnesota Twins at Truist Park. To make room, the team optioned struggling outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

Verdugo, 28, joined the Braves on a one-year, $1.5 million deal signed March 20, offering some much-needed depth in the wake of Ronald Acuña Jr.’s injury and Jurickson Profar’s 80-game suspension for PEDs. While Verdugo underperformed with the Yankees in 2024—posting a .233/.291/.356 slash line with 13 homers—he brings a valuable left-handed bat to Atlanta’s lineup.

De La Cruz, also 28, has struggled early this season, hitting just .191 with no home runs or RBIs in 16 games. With minor league options remaining, he can be recalled later if needed.

For now, the Braves’ outfield rotation includes Verdugo, Michael Harris II, Jarred Kelenic, Stuart Fairchild, and Eli White until Acuña and Profar are eligible to return.
