JUST-NOW; Enemies Turned Trade Partners As Giants Make Surprise Move on Eagles Star Pass-Catcher From Division Rival in $11M Blockbuster

On paper, the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are supposed to be bitter rivals. But as the saying goes — thank you, Sun Tzu — “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.” That might be exactly what’s happening this week, as the two NFC East foes could briefly become unlikely trade partners.

The Giants have a clear need at tight end. Rookie Theo Johnson showed promise last season with 29 receptions for 331 yards and a touchdown, but he’s still developing. Meanwhile, the Eagles are reportedly looking to offload veteran tight end Dallas Goedert — a proven weapon who put up 42 catches, 496 yards, and two touchdowns in just 10 games last year.

Philly views Goedert as too expensive, and at $11 million, that’s no small contract. But for the Giants, who are reportedly “monitoring” the situation, it might be worth the price.

According to reports, New York has already explored the possibility of making a move for Goedert. Whether they pull the trigger could come down to how much Eagles GM Howie Roseman is willing to budge on the asking price — or whether the Giants decide to roll with Johnson and keep their cap space intact.

With GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll both under pressure to turn things around, a move like this could signal a win-now mindset. The question is: Are the Giants ready to make that $11 million call?
